Sean Patrick Villanueva continued his world-class performance in speedcubing by setting the world record with an 8.09 seconds average in One-Handed solving at the Quezon City Open II 2024 at the UP Town Center on Sunday.
Villanueva, a high school student at Ateneo High School, broke the 8.62 seconds average set by American prodigy Max Park last December, marking an impressive 0.53 drop, the largest gap since Antoine Cantin set the One-Handed world record in 2015 with a 0.85 drop.
The 16-year-old Atenean, reigning One-Handed World Champion, also set the national record for the single solve with a 6.60 seconds solve.
His single record currently ranks second in Asia behind Hong Kong’s Antonio Kam (6.45 seconds) and eighth in the world.
Villanueva’s record-breaking performance marks only the second time that a Filipino has set a world record.
