Sean Anthony’s Phoenix Super LPG debut will have to wait.
The 35-year-old may miss the early part of the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup as he underwent surgery during the break to remove bone spurs on his ankle.
“Sean is still recovering from his operation. He might miss the first half of the eliminations,” disclosed head coach Topex Robinson.
The 11-year veteran became a Fuel Master last November after a trade from NorthPort in a multi-player exchange centered around Vic Manuel.
But just days after the deal, Anthony went through the procedure to finally get rid of what had been hounding him for some time now.
He previously aggravated the injury during the Batang Pier’s quarterfinal clash with San Miguel in the 2021 Philippine Cup.
There, he got hurt after stumbling on his own late in the series opener, causing him to sit out Game Two. They eventually got booted out via sweep.
Now, he’s about to embark on a new journey with his new team. Though it may take awhile before he can suit up, he was there for them Thursday.
Anthony was in uniform and joined Phoenix on the bench in its opener versus Terrafirma, witnessing his side come from 17 down to take the 103-100 win.
Robinson said that the Fuel Masters are being patient with the do-it-all forward as they would want to have him at maximum health.
“Hopefully, he’ll get back as soon as possible. But again, we want Sean healthy. So we’re really taking it light with Sean,” he said.
