GlobalPort Batang Pier forward Sean Anthony hopes that he can recover as soon as possible after hurting his ankle during their clash on Sunday night against the Alaska Aces, which they lost, 98-105, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The six-foot-four wingman sprained his left ankle with 2:49 left in the extra period, just moments after he made the game-tying triple at 96-all. He was then carried off the court by his teammates and never saw action afterwards.
Anthony left the venue on a wheelchair.
“We got 10 days. I hope I can get ready in 10 days. If not, I will get back as fast as possible,” said Anthony, who finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists in the loss.
Asked what the initial diagnosis was by the team’s doctors, the Filipino-Canadian cager had no ideas, only describing it as a “bad” one. “I don’t know,” the eight-year pro added..
“Just a sprain. A really bad sprain.”
If ever the injury gets too bad, then the Batang Pier will definitely suffer a big blow in their 2017-18 Philippine Cup campaign, where they are 3-4. Anthony is currently averaging 18.14 points, 9.14 rebounds, and 4.43 assists.
And it also doesn’t help that the Batang Pier’s last four games will be crucial as they aim for the conference playoffs. Moreover, their next assignments won’t come easy, as they will face the TNT Katropa, Magnolia Hotshots, Kia Picanto, and Phoenix Fuel Masters.
GlobalPort are also missing the services of star scorer Terrence Romeo due to a knee injury.
