SEA V-League: Alas Women fall to Thailand in straight sets

Alas Pilipinas suffered a beating at the hands of Thailand, 12-25, 18-25, 10-25, for its second consecutive loss in the first leg of the 2024 Southeast Asia V.League on Saturday in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam.

The Thais feasted on the Filipinas’ defense in the opener, unleashing 16 successful attacks along with four service aces to build a huge advantage that allowed them to field most of their second-stringers.

Alas Pilipinas showed a much better performance in the second frame, but Thailand proved why it’s the best in the region, never giving the Philippines a chance to come back and securing a 2-0 advantage.

To close out the match, the Thais went on a blazing 15-4 run to start the third set, leading by as much as 13 points, 19-6, and never looked back, securing their second consecutive victory in the tournament.

No player from Alas Pilipinas reached double digits in scoring, with the National University pair of Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon scoring five points each.

ZUS Coffee’s Thea Gagate and Akari’s Faith Nisperos had four markers each.

Chatchu-on Moksri led the 2-0 Thailand with 11 points, while Ajcharaporn Kongyot added 10 in the win.

Coming off a close four-set defeat, 23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, at the hands of host Vietnam yesterday, the Filipinas were aiming to bounce back and secure their first win in the tournament against Thailand.

The Philippines (0-2) will get another chance on Sunday when they take on Indonesia as they look to avoid a winless campaign in the opening leg.
