SEA Games: Christine Hallasgo digs deep, gets silver in marathon

Christine Hallasgo could not defend her Southeast Asian Games marathon tiara.

Despite not having any competition since January of 2020, the 29-year-old native of Malaybalay City in Bukidnon still plucked silver in this year’s competition held at the Hanoi Circuit in Vietnam.

Hallasgo finished the grueling race with a time of two hours, 56 minutes, and seven seconds.

Her time was actually close to her golden run in 2019, when she clocked in at two hours, 56 minutes, and 56 seconds.

Taking the crown from her was Indonesian Odekta Naibaho Elvina, who finished with a time of two hours, 55 minutes, and 28 seconds.

Still, Hallasgo was relieved to still be on the podium as her last competition was back in January of 2020.

Vietnam’s Ngoc Hoa Hoang Thi completed the podium with a time of two hours, 57 minutes, and 35 seconds.

All in all, the Philippine Athletics and Track and Field National Team ended up with five golds, seven silvers, and 14 bronzes.
