Joe Silva is returning to Centro Escolar University.
Two years after helping lead the Scorpions to the UCAL Season 6 title as one of Jeff Perlas’ top deputies, the decorated UAAP boys’ basketball champion coach has been named CEU’s new head coach.
Silva will work alongside resident coach Bong Ramos, who took over early in Season 7 following the departure of Britt Reroma.
“I’m just happy to be back as a head coach. Some opportunities come only once, so I am very thankful and grateful to be given this chance to lead a team again,” Silva told Tiebreaker Times.
CEU is hoping Silva’s arrival will bring much-needed stability after a turbulent year.
After a championship-winning run under Perlas, Reroma faced the task of leading the program in Season 7 but suffered three early defeats in the UCAL tournament.
The Scorpions’ management then dismissed Reroma, handing the reins to Ramos to stabilize the team.
Now, with Silva at the helm, the Scorpions aim to recapture the magic of their Season 6 triumph.
Silva, who also serves as the lead deputy for PBA team Blackwater, has added Junjie Ablan and Ron Camara to his coaching staff. He is still in the process of finalizing his team.
