Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas ended the two-year reign of the University of Batangas in esports after pulling off a thrilling 3-2 victory in the PGFlex Linoleum presents UCAL Season 8, held recently at the Smart Omega Bootcamp in Marikina City.
Banking on team synergy and sharp strategic execution, the Dolphins outsmarted the Brahmans to rule the popular Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament and become the winningest school in league history with three titles.
Composed of the Rommel Navarro-mentored squad were team captain Jake Soriano, Sean Rae Iturrios, Charlie Zamora, Kyle Mckenzie Hicana, Prince Xyllan Crispo, Nash Mclean Bonus, Louise Gabrielle Dela Cruz, and Winford Cadag.
PCU-D earlier booked its finals berth after defeating Manila Central University, 2-1, in the semifinals.
In what could be its most successful campaign to date, PCU-D also topped the badminton and table tennis competitions, further cementing its dominance in multiple events.
However, it was host Centro Escolar University that stood out this season after ruling the centerpiece basketball tournament at the expense of Olivarez College. The Scorpions also captured the inaugural 3×3 basketball title.
Other winners included the University of Batangas and Immaculate Conception College, which bagged the men’s and women’s volleyball titles, respectively, while Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas impressed in street dancing.
Meanwhile, Season 9 host Manila Central University is already preparing in earnest as it looks to make a strong showing across various events—not to mention staging a memorable traditional opening ceremony.
