Alex Cabagnot had the hot hand for the San Miguel Beermen when they battled the Alaska Aces on Wednesday evening.
The gunslinging guard unfurled 31 points, including 20 in the first half alone, along with six assists, four rebounds, and two steals to lead the Beermen to a 119-107 victory to get back on track in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“It’s just one of those nights. Shots were falling,” said Cabagnot, who shot an excellent 63.2 percent from the field.
Cabagnot said that it was their sense of urgency to bounce back that fueled the victory. The Beermen were coming off a stinging 107-109 overtime loss to the Barangay Ginebra last Sunday, and they entered Friday’s bout with a 1-3 card.
“We have to. We’re 1-and-3 so sense of urgency is probably a good term or the best way to describe it. We don’t want to miss the boat in the playoffs; we don’t wanna miss the boat and make a too late of a push,” the 14-year pro said.
“Collectively, as a group, we wanted to play as hard as we can, and just play out there. I’m glad we won today.”
Cabagnot was happy that the Beermen emerged victorious, but said that there is nothing to celebrate yet. Their now set their sights on Wednesday, June 26, when they will battle rivals Magnolia Hotshots.
“We won, but we can’t get too high, can’t get too low. We started 0-2, we’re still 2-and-3. There’s nothing to… I don’t know if there’s anything to celebrate about. We have Magnolia coming up on Wednesday,” said the 36-year-old.
“So we just have to prepare, get back to the drawing board, and stay ahead of the learning curve.”
