San Juan-DN Steel eyes solo lead in WMPBL vs Pangasinan-Solar Home

San Juan-DN Steel looks to break free from a three-way tie with New Zealand Bluefire-Batangas and Discovery-Rizal at the top when it returns to action in the 2025 Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League regular season presented by Akari on Wednesday.

Stuck in a three-way logjam at the number one spot with the Valkyries and the Perlas via identical 5-2 records, the Lady Knights will get the chance to move to a solo lead.

They face off against Pangasinan-Solar Home at 6:00 PM at the Montano Hall in Cavite City.

San Juan-DN Steel is riding high following a 57-point victory over RK Hoops-Quezon City. The team is gunning for a third consecutive victory in the tournament supported by Uratex, Black Mamba, Red Dynasty, Aktive Balls, and Pocari Sweat.

Lady Knights stars Chack Cabinbin and Janine Pontejos logged 10 and six minutes, respectively, in their previous win, leaving them well-rested for the next game against the Suns.

“Siyempre nandito na tayo sa second round, so every game counts sa’min ngayon. So coming kami dun sa dalawang [talo], tapos one big game kalaban ang Batangas, ‘yun lang. Ayaw na namin bumalik dun sa dati,” said San Juan-DN Steel head coach Ai Lebornio.

On the other hand, the fourth-ranked Pangasinan-Solar Home (3-4) are looking to put an end to a three-game losing streak with Gabi Bade and LJ Miranda taking charge.

In the second match, Tagaytay-Tol (2-6) and RK Hoops-Quezon City (1-5) are aiming to snap both of their losing streaks at 8:00 PM.

The Patriots have now lost two games since winning back-to-back games on the back of historic performances from Stefanie Berberabe. Set to backstop Berberabe are Monique Del Carmen and Ara Abaca.

Meanwhile, RK Hoops-QC dropped five consecutive matches and has not won since taking down the Suns in their tournament debut.

Alexa Peñaroyo and Caryl Molina will try and power the squad to their second win in the six-team tourney.
