Reinhard Jumamoy did not have the ending he had wanted for his stay with National University Nazareth School.
Figuring in a do-or-die with Far Eastern University-Diliman, Jumamoy and the Bullpups fell behind early and never fully recovered.
Despite one last push by Jumamoy — who had 19 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals, the Baby Tamaraws lead proved to be too much as the Bullpups bowed out of UAAP Season 85, 65-71.
It’s a painful defeat for the 19-year-old Cebuano, who had wanted to keep the crown in NUNS.
“Masakit po kasi yung goal namin hindi namin nakuha,” said the floor general, who holds the record for most triples-doubles in the league ever.
“Sinasabi ng mga coaches namin sa amin na move forward kami kasi hindi naman titigil basketball namin.”
That is why it did not take long for Jumamoy to make his commitment.
Yes, he will be staying at National University for college to settle some unfinished business with head coach Jeff Napa.
“Nag-commit na ako kayla coach kasi nagtitiwala ako sa sistema nila.”
Jumamoy has shone brightly in Napa’s system, averaging 18.88 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.69 assists, and 2.94 steals per game.
But he knows that with the Bulldogs, he is just another pup. NU already has Steve Nash Enriquez, Kean Baclaan, and LA Casinillo in its backcourt.
And he knows that he needs to put in the work from now until October just to get some minutes from those three.
“Yung leadership ko as a point guard kasi minsan nafrufrustrate ako e. Alam ko yung college mabigat kaya kailangan ko ito paghandaan.”
