Quentin Millora-Brown seals return, Kai Sotto eyes July comeback for Gilas

It’s all systems go for Gilas Pilipinas Men in the remainder of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers, as the final two pieces of their player pool have officially committed.

Quentin Millora-Brown has pledged his commitment to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, rejoining the national team starting with Window 2 of the qualifiers.

The development was first reported by Homer Sayson of Spin.ph and later confirmed by Gilas head coach Tim Cone.

“We’re hearing from the SBP that he might arrive tomorrow,” Cone said in a text message.

SBP officials finalized Millora-Brown’s national team contract on Wednesday afternoon — a requirement for professional players not only for insurance coverage but also to secure their release from club duties during FIBA windows.

Millora-Brown himself held discussions with the federation to hammer out the terms of his commitment, according to Tiebreaker Times sources.

He averaged 7.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in the first window against Guam.

The 6-foot-10 big man who plays for Chiba now joins Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu, Kevin Quiambao, Carl Tamayo, Justin Brownlee, Scottie Thompson, June Mar Fajardo, Troy Rosario, Chris Newsome, CJ Perez, RJ Abarrientos, and newcomers Juan Gomez de Liano and Justine Baltazar in the pool for Window 2, where Gilas will host New Zealand on February 26 and Australia on March 1.

Meanwhile, Kai Sotto has also committed to rejoining Gilas beginning in Window 3 of the qualifiers, according to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation.

Sotto, who last suited up for Gilas during the 2025 Asia Cup Qualifiers, has pledged to play in the July window, where the Nationals will travel to face the Tall Blacks on July 3 and the Boomers on July 6.

The 7-foot-3 big man is currently averaging 11.1 points and 9.3 rebounds in eight games for Koshigaya since returning from an ACL injury last year.

The Alphas, however, continue to exercise caution with Sotto, limiting his minutes as he works his way back to full strength.

Sotto will still arrive in the country to take part in viewings in preparation for Window 2.
