PVL: Cignal wallops Galeries, joins leaders

Cignal sustained its fine start, sweeping Galeries Tower, 25-14, 25-16, 25-17, for its second consecutive win in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Saturday at the Philsports Arena.

Carrying their momentum from their four-set win over the retooled Akari, the HD Spikers went on a dominant 15-4 start in the opener.

They never looked back from there, breezing past the Highrisers for a 2-0 start in the tournament.

“Again, ang sarap ng pakiramdam ulit, siyempre panalo. But siyempre mas kailangan ulit namin manalo after this. Thankful and happy,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos.

Ces Molina top-scored for the HD Spikers, delivering a game-high 14 points on 12 attacks and two aces. She also had six excellent receptions and five excellent digs to help her side secure the win in just an hour and 21 minutes of game time.

Vanie Gandler, who only played in the first two sets of the contest, scored seven points.

Meanwhile, Rose Doria and Jovelyn Gonzaga chipped in six markers apiece.

Gel Cayuna tossed 15 excellent sets to laced with four points for Cignal. Dawn Catindig tallied 14 excellent digs and six excellent receptions for his first Player of the Game citation.

“I think ‘yung performance namin, we gave our best today. Nakaka-proud sa mga teammates ko kasi kahit sino naman ang ipasok mo talagang nagco-contribute. So happy lang na naka-straight sets kami today,” said Molina.

The HD Spikers look to make it three in a row against Nxled on Thursday, 6:00 PM at the Philsports Arena.

Graze Bombita and Andrea Marzan had seven and six markers, respectively.

Galeries will look to score its first win versus defending champion Creamline also on Thursday at 4:00 PM.
