PVL: Cignal gets back at Choco Mucho, evens bronze series

ANTIPOLO — Cignal fought back, taking out Choco Mucho in four sets, 25-18, 27-25, 23-25, 25-17, in the Game Two of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Ynares Center here, Friday.

Ces Molina, who was later awarded the First Best Outside Spiker award, dropped 21 points while Rachel Daquis did it all with 18 points, 25 excellent digs, and eight excellent receptions.

“Sobrang thankful especially kay Lord, siyempre sa mga boss namin, sa Cignal management and then yung players and coaches sobrang nakakaproud,” said HD Spikers head coach Shaq delos Santos.

Cignal is on the verge of securing the bronze medal due to its quotient advantage. If Creamline bags the title later tonight, the HD Spikers will automatically take the third place.

Ria Meneses’ back-to-back aces, followed by a drop from Gel Cayuna, gave the HD Spikers a seven-point lead, 22-15, in the final stretch of the fourth set.

Des Cheng kept the Flying Titans in the match before Rachel Daquis put Cignal at match point. Ces Molina then ended it with a kill.

“Kasi before kami magpunta dito, kahapon pa lang sa training alam namin yung magiging goal namin. Ayun, pinagkaloob sa amin ni Lord and hindi siya naging madali alam namin na matibay talaga yung Choco Mucho but hopefully yung points sana makuha namin talaga,” added delos Santos.

Jerrili Malabanan and Meneses each had nine points for the HD Spikers while Roselyn Doria added seven markers.

Gel Cayuna tossed 34 excellent sets laced with seven points while Jheck Dionela had 22 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions.
