Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinal point guard CJ Isit was named Freego Player of the Week by Filoil Flying V Premier Cup organizers.
The fourth year point guard out Canada led the Mapua Cardinals to a 104-94 win over Letran last May 14 to give his side its first win in the three week old tourney.
Isit tallied a game high 23 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals for the match. Joining Isit in the Gatorade Best Five of the Week are San Sebastian College’s Michael Calisaan, Perpetual Help’s Bright Akhuetie, Adamson’s Papi Sarr, and University of the East’s Alvin Pasaol.
Calisaan led the San Sebastian Golden Stags to a huge 87-78 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College where he led the Stags with 25 points.
Akhuetie helped his Altas stay undefeated with a double double performance of 19 points and 13 rebounds during a 80-72 triumph over erstwhile undefeated Arellano University. The Altas are currently pave Group A of the tournament with a 4-0 record.
Adamson’s Sarr help arrest the Falcons’ two-match slide with 22 points, 10 rebounds and one block in a 90-60 rout of Lyceum of the Philippines.
UE’s Alvin Pasaol has become the firestarter off the bench for Derrick Pumaren. The burly forward out of Davao City led the Red Warriors with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in a 91-75 win over Lyceum.
Rounding out the week’s best is Allwell Oraeme who was named Gatorade Best Defensive Player. Oraeme, last year’s Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in NCAA Season 91, pulled down 18 rebounds and swatted away six Letran shots in his team’s win.
