Bianca Pagdanganan and a few other golfers needed to keep their clubs in their bags as the second round 2021 LPGA Volunteers of America Classic was suspended on inclement weather, Saturday morning (Manila time) Old American Golf Club in Texas.
Play was delayed for over six hours, pushing the 23-year-old to a 6:53 p.m. start, with Dottie Ardina starting 7:48 p.m. Clariss Guce was the only Filipino who got to start her round at broad daylight at 1:31 p.m.
Pagdanganan got to tackle seven holes before the round was once again suspended due to darkness and ended with the score she began with at 1-under overall.
The 2019 Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist tried to bounce back in this round after an up-and-down opener, but could not get it going in the day. Nonetheless, her composed play throughout the early evening saw her getting pars from nos. 1 to 7 to hang on the said score card.
Guce, on her part, also retained her 2-under scoreline from the previous round after a steady take of the second batch 18 holes.
The 31-year-old Filipino-American opened the day with a birdie on No. 1 to get to 3-under, but a bogey in seventh pushed her back to 2-under at the turn. Pars along the back nine then closed the day for Guce.
The same could not be said of Ardina, who has not only got stopped by darkness but also got to take on three holes so far.
Just one hour in the course, the 27-year-old veteran was not lacking in drama as she went from qualifying to missing the cut in just the said three holes.
A bogey in the first followed by a double in the second saw her 1-under turn into 2-over, before she bounced back with a birdie before the suspension of play.
Pagdanganan and Ardina will look to bounce back, while Guce will try for a breakthrough third round as play resumes on 7:30 a.m. of Saturday in this Texas suburb.
