Bianca Pagdanganan carried her momentum from the previous tournament into the opening round of the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open, starting with a steady performance on Thursday (Philippine time) at the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club in Ontario, Canada.
The 27-year-old Olympian was coming off an 8-under 280 finish at the recently concluded Portland Classic, narrowly missing a top-25 spot after a costly double bogey on the 18th hole.
That finish came despite an impressive run, highlighted by an eagle on the seventh hole and birdies on the eighth, 10th, and 12th.
This time, Pagdanganan managed to stay composed despite a few challenges, particularly on the second and 18th holes.
She sparked her round with birdies on the seventh and ninth to make the turn at 1-under 34.
Another birdie on the 13th moved her to 2-under and inside the top 15, but a bogey on the final hole dropped her back to 1-under, leaving her in a tie for 21st after the first round.
Pagdanganan remains within striking distance of the leaders, trailing Japan’s Akie Iwai, who seized the early lead with a flawless 7-under 64.
Iwai, one of the late starters of the day, turned in a bogey-free card highlighted by back-to-back birdies to both open and close her round.
Pagdanganan, the lone Filipino in the field, is scheduled to return to action on Friday at 2:04 PM (Saturday, 2:04 AM, Philippine time).
