Team Lakay’s Carlos Alvarez and Adonis Sevilleno had different outcomes in their respective bouts at ONE Friday Fights 13, which took place at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.
Alvarez, the brother-in-law of former ONE flyweight champion Geje Eustaquio, put on a dominant performance in his maiden appearance under the promotion’s banner by demolishing fellow debutant Reza Abasi of Iran with his ground game in a one-sided featherweight contest.
The 24-year-old Baguio City native had cruise control right from the start, demonstrating excellent takedown techniques and easily transitioning between positions to mount his facial-disfiguring offense.
Alvarez knew that the finish was within his reach when he ended the opening stanza bombarding his Iranian opponent with a plethora of vicious ground-and-pound.
“The Limitless” immediately stepped on the gas pedal once he came out of his corner in the second round, where he was able to secure a full mount that allowed him to fire an unyielding barrage of hammerfists.
Alvarez’s offensive advances persisted, leaving Abasi vulnerable. This compelled veteran referee Herb Dean to step in to end the punishment at the 3:50 mark of the second frame.
With the scintillating victory, Alvarez improved his professional mixed martial arts record to 2-0. Meanwhile, Abasi fell to 1-2.
Unfortunately for Alvarez’s stablemate Sevilleno, he absorbed a demoralizing loss at the hands of Mongolian bruiser Enkh Orgil in a 145-pound catchweight contest.
Sevilleno struggled to find his rhythm over the course of three rounds, with the Road To ONE: Mongolia winner consistently getting the better of him on the feet and outmaneuvering him during the battle of leverage in the grappling department.
Despite putting up a valiant effort in the hard-fought battle, the ONE Warriors Series Philippines’ sole survivor walked away empty-handed, dropping a hapless unanimous decision to Orgil.
Sevilleno is now 0-2 in the organization with a downgraded win-loss slate of 2-4, whereas Orgil moved up to an 8-2 standing.
Jhanlo Sangiao will try to close out Team Lakay’s campaign in Bangkok on a high note tomorrow, April 22, as he is scheduled to take on Argentina’s Matias Farinelli in a 149-pound catchweight joust at ONE Fight Night 9.
