Adamson University ruled the Kadayawan 2022 Invitational Basketball Tournament held in Davao last weekend.
During the tournament, the Soaring Falcons took on fellow UAAP school Far Eastern University, PSL team Davao Occidental, VisMin Super Cup club Zamboanga, and provincial squads Dabaw and General Santos.
It’s a different tournament compared to the preseason leagues in Manila, according to second-year Adamson head coach Nash Racela as they faced a couple of pro teams and a team filled with ex-pros.
“We don’t deny the fact that Kadayawan Festival Tournament really helped us,” said Racela after Adamson’s 83-71 beatdown of Lyceum in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Filoil Ecooil Preseason Cup.
“It was a nice experience for our players to be able to play mga ex-pros, mga hari ng panalay, mga tirador, mga physical players and tough, really tough players. That’s really, I think no, maexperience mo yan as a player, as a college player to really help you toughen up.
“Kaya nagpapasalamat kami sa mga tao sa Davao na nag-invite at tumulong talaga samin. It was really, kumbaga a wonderful experience for Adamson,” he continued.
In the final of the tournament held last Sunday held at USEP Gym, the Soaring Falcons needed to dig deep to outlast the JR Alabanza-led Dabaw, taking a 71-69 overtime win to rule the tournament.
Besides the Kadayawan and the Preseason Cup, Adamson also joined the PG-Flex UCBL preseason meet.
And Racela is looking to join more tournaments before the UAAP begins on October 1.
“We can’t go to Japan, we can’t go to Korea, we can’t go to Israel diba? So we just go to Davao, and Surigao. So any province that is willing or wants to invite us then please do.”
