Jasmine Nabor credited her stint with Foton during the last conference for her impressive performance in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference as a returning member of Chery Tiggo.
The 25-year-old setter achieved her first Player of the Game honor this conference in just the Crossovers’ second game.
Nabor played as an attacking playmaker in Chery Tiggo’s 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 victory over newcomer Galeries on Thursday. She contributed seven points, including three blocks, two aces, and two attacks, while also delivering 14 excellent sets.
“Sobrang laking tulong din na nag-Foton ako dati. Naboost yung morale ko, yung confidence ko bumalik ulit,” said Nabor shortly after their second win in as many games.
“Nakakatuwa din naman na bumalik ako sa Chery, yung mga natutunan ko sa Foton kahit papaano nagagawa ko dito,” she added.
When the Chery Tiggo management decided to form another team in the Tornadoes, Nabor was among the players who crossed over to Foton.
The Tornadoes made their debut in the 2023 Invitational Conference, but their journey was cut short with an 11th place finish among 13 teams. The team was subsequently disbanded, clearing the path for Nabor’s return.
In their game against Farm Fresh on Tuesday, the National University product recorded 15 excellent sets to go along with three points, including two service aces.
Such performances, especially earning a Player of the Game accolade, make Nabor even more eager to excel as the conference continues.
“Sobrang nakakatuwa kasi malaking tulong din sa akin para tumaas yung confidence at mas mag-improve pa. Nakakatuwa din na lahat ng pinapagawa ni coach lumalabas sa game kahit sino man nasa loob ng court.”
Chery Tiggo head coach Aaron Velez, who was also Foton’s team manager when it still existed, explained the rationale behind transferring Nabor to the Tornadoes in the last conference.
In the Invitationals, the Crossovers had Joyme Cagande and Angelica Legacion as their setters. Alina Bicar was also in the lineup but did not play due to an injury.
“Nakaplano kasi talaga lahat ‘yun, basta sa amin alam ng mga players namin na wala kaming basta-bastang iniiwan o nilalayoff, lahat ‘yun nakadesign,” shared Velez.
“Not simply because of putting them in any team, but more about what they can gain from it, regardless of who their coach is or who they are playing with.”
