Regine Arocha orchestrated the Arellano University Lady Chiefs’ drubbing of the Technological Institute of the Philippines Lady Engineers, 25-12, 25-7, 25-13, to raise the curtains to their 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference campaign, Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The reigning NCAA queens strutted their championship pedigree and fired on all cylinders to blank the Lady Engineers.
“Kahit na sabihin na natin na nanalo tayo noong first set, lagi kong nire-remind na mas gandahan pa lalo yung performance para kumbaga yung confidence ng team ko, umangat pa,” Arellano head coach Obet Javier said.
Regine Arocha and Necole Ebuen dealt damage on offense and top-scored in the match with 10 points apiece. The former had eight attacks and a pair of blocks laced with 13 excellent digs while the latter supplied nine attacks and an ace.
Arellano setter Princess Verutiao tossed 11 excellent sets. She also contributed four of her team’s six aces for six points. Charmina Dino managed five markers while Joy Batindaan, Mika Juanich, and Carla Donato had four points each.
“Sinabi ko lang naman sa team ko na everytime magkakaroon ka ng opportunity na maglaro lalo na sa venue na to, dapat yan, kumbaga i-grab mo kasi maraming gusto maglaro dito e,” Javier added.
For the Lady Engineers, Khem Consencino was the lone bright spot. She scattered five points, six excellent digs, and 11 excellent receptions.
Arellano shall next face Lyceum on Saturday while TIP looks to bounce back when it squares off against FEU. Both games will be played at the same venue.
