In that match, the KaTropa crawled back from a deep 17-point deficit in the second quarter and even took a 119-116 lead with 3:43 remaining in the game, but the breaks of the game, unfortunately, did not go in their favor.
So Roger Pogoy used that as extra motivation for Game Three Friday night. And it showed on the court.
“Importante nanalo kami. Bonus na lang yung maganda laro ko. Kasi gusto talaga namin bumounce back, kasi yung Game Two parang nasa amin na, natalo pa,” said Pogoy moments after the match.
“So praise God na nanalo kami.”
Pogoy caught fire in the final quarter, drilling a total of four three-pointers in the period alone — including two that powered the Texters’ 12-0 run that turned a slim three-point lead to a wide 100-85 advantage with 7:26 left to play.
“Siguro, nalilibre lang ako kasi nung Game Two pangit yung shooting,” said the third-year guard, who only made one from the six attempts he took back in Game Two.
“Siguro, nashushoot lang talaga yung tira ko. Timing lang.”
Pogoy finished with five threes, accounting for the KaTropa’s 15 treys. The Far Eastern University product then pointed out that they really need to make those outside shots, especially whenever the opposition plays zone.
“Importante talaga yung three-points sa’min para maano yung sona nila. Kasi kung hindi kami maka-shoot sa labas, siguro puro sona na lang sila all the way. Ang hirap nun,” he said.
“Ang hirap ‘pag naka-zone sila. Ang lalaki pa naman.”
