Men’s sabre, Women’s foil teams pick up bronze in SEAG fencing

The Philippines added two more bronze medals to its collection in the 30th Southeast Asian Games fencing competitions, Friday morning at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

This, after the men’s sabre and women’s foil teams lost in the semifinals — both against Vietnam.

Individual sabre silver medalist CJ Concepcion led the men’s side alongside Eric Brando II, Donnie Arth Navarro, and Eunice Daniel Villanueva as they absorbed a 38-45 defeat.

The Filipino fencers made it to the semis and assured themselves of a bronze following a 45-38 win over Indonesia.

On the other hand, the women’s side made up of foil bronze winner Samantha Kaye Catantan, Maxine Esteban, Wilhelmina Lozada, and Justine Gail Tinio suffered a 36-45 setback.

The Philippines has another chance to snag a gold, as the men’s foil and the women’s epee squads play on Saturday.
