Meneses eyes ‘best available talent’ in last pick of PVL Draft

With Creamline set to pick last in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft, head coach Sherwin Meneses plans to select the best available talent to bolster the Cool Smashers.

Meneses shared his plans with members of the press during the second day of the PVL Draft Combine at Gameville Ball Park in Mandaluyong on Tuesday.

“Actually meron namang [targets], dipende lang sa situation na mangyayari kung sino yung one to 11 na makukuha,” said the PVL champion coach.

“Sa lahat ng position may strategy kami. Kaso, ayun nga, dipende kung sino yung top 11 kasi number 12 kami. So napakahirap magsabi ng specific [na position], ng isang position lang,” he added.

The Cool Smashers emerged as the top team of the season-opening All-Filipino Conference after beating sister squad Choco Mucho in the best-of-three finale for the second consecutive time.

As a result, the Rebisco-backed squad automatically fell to the 12th overall pick in the inaugural PVL Rookie Draft.

The event will take place on July 8 at Novotel.

Facing a challenging position, Meneses is working hard to identify players who will fit into the Cool Smashers’ system and help the team in its mission to capture the elusive Reinforced Conference crown.

“Malaking bagay ‘tong Draft Combine kasi lahat may chance na magpakita ng skills, kahit yung iba na ‘di masyado kilala may mga chances sila. So dapat mag-focus sila sa ginagawa nila ngayon,” said Meneses, who attended both days of the Draft Combine.
