Mary Joy Tabal finishes 11th, fastest among SEA neighbors

Mary Joy Tabal held her head up high as she crossed the finish line of the Women’s Marathon of the 2018 Asian Games even if she finished at 11th place.

Though clocking at a time of 2:51:41 in the event that saw the runners take on a 42 kilometer course in Jakarta, Indonesia, the 29-year-old Cebuana, who competed in the 2016 Olympics, outperformed her Southeast Asian counterparts once again.

In contrast, Tabal finished the 2017 SEA Games with a time of 2:48:28.

Bahrain’s Rose Chelimo won gold with a time of 2:34:51.

The Philippine record for the event is still at 2:38:44, accomplished by Christabel Martes back in 2005.
