Denzil Walker finds new home in Letran

After much thought and consideration, Denzil Walker has made his decision.

The 6-foot-4 Filipino-American winger is set to transfer to Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Walker, who drew interest from top NCAA programs such as San Beda, Perpetual Help, and San Sebastian, ultimately chose Letran because of the clear vision presented to him by Knights head coach Allen Ricardo.

“As soon as it was announced, Coach Allen was the most persistent—showing a lot of genuine interest,” Walker told Tiebreaker Times.

“Of course, he wants what’s best for the team, but he also made it clear that he wants the best for me as a person and as a player during my time at Letran—and even beyond that.”

Walker clarified that his decision to leave University of the Philippines wasn’t fueled by dissatisfaction, but rather by the opportunity for growth and development. During his lone season with the Fighting Maroons, he saw limited action—appearing in just five games.

He will have to serve a one-year residency and sit out NCAA Season 101 but will be eligible to play for Letran starting Season 102, where he has three full years of eligibility remaining. By then, Walker hopes to make a significant impact and help the Knights reclaim their place at the top.

“The goals are clear—making the Final Four is a must, and hopefully, bringing a championship to the Letran community, God willing!”

For Coach Ricardo, however, this transfer is more than just about basketball.

“I’m beyond blessed to have a player like Denzil Walker. In this game, it’s never just about skill—it’s about the heart behind the jersey. When you bring someone in, it has to come from a place of real intention, honesty, and belief. That’s how it was with Denzil.

He’s not here to ask for anything. He just wants to play. No ego, no expectations—just pure love for the game. And I got him.

This is just the start. We both know that. He’s going to grow—not just as an athlete, but as a man. His journey isn’t just about basketball—it’s about building the kind of character that lasts far beyond the court.

I’m grateful and excited to walk with him on this path. Because sometimes, when one door closes, it’s only so a better one can open. And that door is here, with us at Letran Knights Basketball.”
