After an alleged low blow to Chris Banchero during the late stages of Game Four of the Governors’ Cup Finals, the PBA has sanctioned seven-year veteran Mark Barroca with a fine of PHP 50,000, Thursday.
The league reviewed the tape of the incident earlier in the day, and established that it was indeed a low blow.
For his part, Barroca insisted that it was not a dirty play, and he had simply been caught up with the heat of the moment.
“Mainit lang yung laban kanina.”
Alaska Aces head coach Alex Compton was also not spared, as he was also handed an undisclosed tab for “issuing statements detrimental to the league.”
“Somebody punched Mike (Harris) in the testicles; somebody punched Chris (Banchero) in the testicles. At what point is it gonna get called? I’m not happy about that one bit. It’s dirty basketball,” Compton asserted after Alaska’s 90-76 victory over Magnolia that knotted the series.
Game Five of the best-of-seven series takes place on Friday, December 14, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
