Marck Espejo doubtful for Game 3 due to right shoulder injury

After months of non-stop volleyball, it finally took its toll on four-time Spikers’ Turf MVP Marck Espejo.

The Cignal star aggravated a right shoulder injury in Game Two of the 2019 Spikers Turf Reinforced Conference semifinals against the Sta. Elena Ball Hammers, Sunday.

It was the same injury he suffered in Japan during his stint with the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler in the Japan V-League.

Right after fulfilling his contract obligations with the White Eagles, the five-time UAAP MVP went straight home and answered the country’s call, suiting up for Rebisco-Philippines in the Spikers’ Turf while also playing for his mother club Cignal.

Espejo was able to play all five sets in Game Two, tallying 10 points and 17 excellent receptions in Cignal’s five-set loss against Sta. Elena.

The 6-foot-3 spikers out of Marikina has struggled mightily in the series due to the pain he is in.

Espejo did not start Game One but still finished with 10 points and 12 receptions in three sets.

Prior to this, the national team spiker hammered 35 points in Rebisco-Philippines’ five-set triumph over Saraburi Thai Denmark last July 9 to lift the Philippines to a bronze place finish in the 2019 Sealect Tuna Thailand Volleyball Championships.

The Ateneo product will be evaluated and is doubtful for Game Three, according to Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor.
