Generika-Ayala pounces on short-handed Cignal HD

Building off a hot start, the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers swept the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20, for their third win in the 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The HD Spikers were dealt a huge blow early in the first set when Serbian import Sonja Milanovic went down with a sprained ankle. She was carried off the court and was unable to return to the game.

With their foes missing a major offensive piece, the Lifesavers capitalized. Generika made a late run to take the first set, before overcoming a 6-13 gap in the second frame. The Lifesavers then sprinted to the finish line, breaking away from 15-all tie in the third frame to take a 21-16 lead and never look back.

“Maganda ‘yung pinakitang effort ng team. Kahit na kulang pa ng isang import ‘yung kalaban, hindi naman namin sila pwedeng maliitin,” said Generika head coach Sherwin Meneses.

“Lumaban ‘yung team hanggang dulo kaya naging maganda ‘yung resulta namin,” the Ateneo assistant coach furthered.

Darlene Ramdin led the Lifesavers with 17 points, while Symone Hayden added 14.

Jeane Horton was the lone double-digit scorer for Cignal with 16 markers.

Cignal and Generika finished the elimination round with identical 3-7 slates.
