SUBIC — Kim Mangrobang and John Chicano look to rule the 30th Southeast Asian Games Triathlon Competition at the Boardwalk.
Mangrobang, who claimed the gold medal in 2017, will see action at 8:00 am.
The 28-year-old, who spent the last year training in Portugal, has been always vocal, saying that she won’t settle for anything less than retaining her crown.
Mangrobang will partner with Kim Kilgroe in a bid for another 1-2 finish similar to their feat in Kuala Lumpur.
The same goes for Chicano, who finished in second place to Nikko Huelgas back in 2017.
Cebuano triathlete Kim Remolino will likewise aim for the gold after topping several Filipino elite races prior to the regional meet.
“Siyempre, nandoon pa rin ‘yung mindset na goal natin maka-gold para sa Philippines,” said Chicano, who’s gunning for his first SEA Games gold medal.
“Doon lang kami nakatingin ngayon.”
Although they have the homecourt advantage, Chicano was quick to say that complacency has no room in the Philippine National Team.
Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam as their toughest competitors as they start the race at 6:00 a.m.
“Nandyan pa rin ‘yung Singapore eh, malakas pa rin ‘yung lineup nila ngayon eh. Tinitignan din namin ‘yung Malaysia and Vietnam kasi malakas daw ‘yung swimmer nila so tignan natin,” said Chicano.
