The PBA slapped Allein Maliksi with a one-game suspension in the aftermath of the altercation that marred the PBA Governors’ Cup match between Meralco and Converge on Friday night.
In an announcement the day after the said game, the 35-year-old guard was also fined for a hefty P75,000.
Tempers flared in the final six seconds of the game when Maliksi grabbed Barkley Ebona in the neck as he didn’t like the duty foul given up by the FiberXers big man to stop the clock.
Officials would slap Ebona with an F1 and Maliksi an F2 infraction, automatically booting him out.
Ebona was meted a P5,000 fine and was warned that a repeat of such incident will merit a stiffer penalty.
Maliksi could’ve easily been one of the night’s stories for putting his Bolts ahead, 130-128, with 34 seconds left en route to the 132-129 win, only to hog the headlines for the wrong reasons.
The former Gilas Pilipinas winger, though, has already issued an apology via Instagram Saturday.
PBA Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro summoned the two at the league’s office in Libis, Quezon City also Saturday to hear their sides before meting out the fines and suspension.
Maliksi will serve the suspension in Meralco’s game against Phoenix on Sunday at the Philsports Arena.
