Majoy Baron wants to share leadership mantle

Perhaps there is no fury greater than when the De La Salle University Lady Spikers play right after a loss.

After a disheartening defeat to the NU Lady Bulldogs last Sunday, the Lady Spikers vented their ire on the hapless University of the East Lady Warriors Wednesday afternoon. Team captain Majoy Baron spearheaded the Lady Spikers, scoring 13 points off 10 attacks and three blocks.

The graduating middle blocker relished the lessons she learned from coach Ramil De Jesus.

“For me, I took it as a challenge to see how we’ll respond and bounce back. Natural lang naman matalo, especially since lahat ng teams competitive this year,” the reigning Most Valuable Player shared. “Mas okay na nangyare ‘yun para matuto kami.

“Nasa maturity na ‘yun with how you’ll take it. Naiintidinhan ko naman lahat ng sinasabi ni coach, I trust him sa mga instructions niya. He’s been in the industry for so long so we trust him talaga as a team,” she added about her decorated mentor.

“Sobrang prepared na ako with how he disciplines us and kung paano niya ilabas ‘yung character namin as a team.”

With La Salle at 4-1, Baron wants the Lady Spikers to keep improving, and for her and her graduating teammates to eventually share the leadership load with her teammates.

“Marami pang kulang. Pero slowly, gusto ko rin na i-take ng co-seniors ko ‘yung responsibility na hindi lang dapat ako,” expressed the 22-year-old, who — together with Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili — is playing her final year with La Salle.

“Gusto kong i-share sa kanila ‘yung responsibility kasi for us rin naman ito, para sa aming mga graduating. Ayaw din naman magka-regret in the end.”
