Lito Adiwang and Jeremy Miado will go head-to-head on the same stage once again, providing a much-anticipated sequel to their rivalry.
The three-round strawweight rematch is booked to happen at ONE Fight Night 16, emanating live from the world-renowned Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on November 4.
Both men first crossed paths in March 2022, a duel that was full of anticipation and excitement. But what should have been a thrilling contest concluded in an unfortunate manner.
In the second round of the matchup, Adiwang suffered a torn ACL, causing the bout to come to an abrupt end. The victory was then awarded to Miado, but it left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of fans and pundits alike.
Adiwang’s injury not only sidelined him for a considerable 18 months but also prompted many to ponder what might have been.
Miado (12-5) used his triumph over Adiwang as a stepping stone to further success. He followed up his win with a third-round knockout of Danial Williams in an October 2022 catchweight clash.
It seemed like “The Jaguar” was on the rise, riding the momentum from beating Adiwang and Williams. However, his ascent got derailed when he faced then-debutant Mansur Malachiev this past June, succumbing to a first-round submission defeat.
For Adiwang (14-5), he returned to action with a bang last September. In just 23 seconds, he knocked out Adrian Mattheis, announcing his comeback in style.
As they prepare to run it back, Adiwang and Miado have a lot on the line. A convincing win for either competitor would undoubtedly help their case to re-enter the Top Five in the talent-filled strawweight division.
Recent events within the weight class have only given a much clearer picture of who might be next in line for a shot at Jarred Brooks’ ONE strawweight championship.
Over the weekend, Joshua Pacio eked out a close unanimous decision at Malachiev’s expense. This victory allowed him to keep his spot as the No. 1 contender, and a second date opposite Brooks may be on the horizon.
It can be recalled that Pacio and Brooks squared off against each other in December 2022, with the latter walking away with the belt by unanimous decision.
