Jeremy Miado is on a mission to regain his winning ways at ONE Fight Night 23 on July 6.
The 31-year-old Albay native is set to lock horns with Hiroba Minowa in a three-round strawweight MMA clash, emanating live from the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Miado’s current trajectory is far from his stature nearly two years ago, when he held a seat in the division’s rankings for a four-fight winning streak.
“The Jaguar” dramatically went on a downward spiral, losing three consecutive bouts at the hands of Mansur Malachiev, Lito Adiwang, and Keito Yamakita.
Two of these three defeats exposed vulnerabilities in his ground game, succumbing to first-round submissions.
Despite these setbacks, he remains a dangerous threat in the ring, particularly with his heavy hands.
All six of his wins under the ONE Championship banner have come by way of knockout, exhibiting his ability to finish matches in emphatic fashion
Miado has been consistently striving to develop his grappling, recognizing the importance of having a well-rounded skill set.
“I am really putting effort into my training to address all my shortcomings as a fighter. Even though I have lost in my past bouts, I still see opportunities where I can grow as a fighter,” he told Tiebreaker Times.
Standing across from Miado is a formidable opponent in Minowa, a No. 4-ranked contender in the weight class.
The Japanese spitfire began his ONE tenure on an impressive note, beating the likes of Alex Silva and Adiwang.
Like Miado, Minowa has hit a rough patch, bowing to top-tier foes such as Jarred Brooks, Bokang Masunyane, and Gustavo Balart.
However, the string of losses doesn’t change the fact that Minowa’s résumé reflects his prowess as a skilled grappler, who has eight career submissions and three ground-and-pound stoppages.
Minowa presents a significant challenge for Miado, especially given the latter’s recent struggles in the exchanges on the mat.
Putting Minowa’s caliber into consideration, Miado acknowledges the need to exhaust all efforts in his preparation.
“I am not the type of person who will back down from any fight. The only solution here is to prepare well. That is the key here,” he stated.
Fully aware of the daunting task ahead, Miado stands resolute, fully committed to placing every last betting chip squarely on himself.
“Many things can happen in a fight, there are many chances to win in an MMA fight. I believe that I can overcome this test,” he expressed.
