Two Filipino teenagers will get a chance to train and shine with their peers over the weekend.
Letran High School’s Andy Gemao and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Jelo Rota are currently in Abu Dhabi, taking part in the 13th edition of the NBA Basketball Without Borders Asia.
And the two are part of the country’s elite prospects in the under-18 age division.
Gemao, a high-flying 6-foot-1 guard, led the Squires to the NCAA Season 98 championship. He was also part of Gilas Boys’ Under-16 squad.
Meanwhile, Rota is an agile big man who powered the Magis Eagles to the CESAFI 23 title.
They join a total of 80 prospects from the continent and will take part in skills development trainings and games.
“We are extremely happy to have this edition of BWB Asia in the UAE for the first time, where the best prospects from Asia and Oceania will be able to demonstrate their skills and commitment to our sport,” said FIBA National Federations & Sport Director, Zoran Radovic.
“Our appreciation goes to DCT Abu Dhabi for accepting this joint initiative from both the NBA and FIBA and for their commitment to this prestigious camp. We look forward to seeing the future stars of the game in Abu Dhabi.”
Since 2001, a total of 106 BWB alumni have made it to the NBA.
