LA Tenorio won’t be holding any celebrations for his birthday this Monday, putting them off to Wednesday instead. Or, that is, after the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel finish off rivals Meralco Bolts in Game Two of their 2018 Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal series.
“Masarap kung makumpleto this week. Wednesday. Not looking for this win actually, looking forward for Wednesday’s game. So will try to finish the game on Wednesday,” said Tenorio, who has now turned 34.
The star floor general and the Gin Kings have the opportunity to close out the best-of-three series this coming Wednesday, following their 88-81 victory over the Orangemen, Monday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
“Oo, oo. ‘Yun talagang kinukuha kong… ‘Yun talaga gusto ko. This one, of course, and sa Wednesday talagang perfect birthday gift sa akin talaga,” Tenorio iterated. “I’m looking forward but again, it’s not gonna be easy.”
Game Two won’t be an easy game, seeing how the first game went.
The match was a nip-and-tuck affair, as both teams’ wide leads never lasted for minutes. Ginebra only felt a sense of comfort in the final 25.5 seconds, when Justin Brownlee sank a dagger trey that put them up, 87-79.
“We know that the game on Wednesday is not gonna be easy, it’s a bit more harder than this game actually. So we’re expecting that. We know how to play in the series. We know naman how coach Norman [Black] adjusts and Meralco,” the three-time champion shared.
“‘Di sila basta basta magpapatalo. Hopefully sa wednesday ma-overcome namin sila and advance sa next round para maka-celebrate naman.
“‘Di ako makapag celebrate eh,” quipped Tenorio.
