Kim Mazo’s tenacity highlights Adamson’s ‘heart over height’ philosophy

Adamson University is determined to prove that heart can triumph over height in the competitive UAAP landscape.

With a formidable field that includes reigning champions University of Santo Tomas, National University, University of the Philippines, and Ateneo de Manila University, the Lady Falcons refuse to be overshadowed.

Adamson’s roster is primarily composed of shorter guards, competing against standout players like Kent Pastrana, Camille Clarin, and Louna Ozar.

However, Adamson is not merely aiming to establish its status as a ‘gatecrasher’. It has committed to showing that skill and tenacity can overcome physical disadvantages.

A believer in that vision is 4-foot-10 guard Kim Mazo, who embodies this mentality with the support of Cris Padilla and head coach Ryan Monteclaro.

Mazo’s impact on the court was evident on Saturday afternoon, where she contributed 11 points and three assists.

She finished with a remarkable plus-27 in just over 13 minutes of play in Adamson’s stunning 77-72 win over Kacey dela Rosa and Ateneo.

Her journey in the Lady Falcons’ program has also deepened her relationships with the Lady Falcons, particularly the sisterly bond she has formed with Padilla.

As a mentor, Padilla, who emerged as the MVP in the inaugural UAAP girls’ basketball tournament, has been instrumental in Mazo’s development.

While Mazo acknowledges that taller players in the UAAP can be intimidating, she remains confident in her abilities.

Her determination and hard work allow her to challenge any defender.
