Thursday evening, Kiefer Ravena was “randomly” selected as one of two players identified by the International Basketball Federation to take a drug test prior to the 2019 World Cup.
“It’s really funny but at the same time, completely understandable,” said the 25-year-old Ravena, who received an 18-month suspension from the world governing body last year due to banned substances found in his system.
Back in March 4, 2018, Ravena was picked as one of the Gilas players to undergo a drug test after the Philippines’ game against Japan at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
He was caught with small traces of substances that are banned by the regulating body. Ravena later revealed the cause was his pre-workout drink Dust.
For the 6-foot guard, he understands the reason why he was selected to undergo this test. This time around, Ravena is positive that he will pass the test with flying colors.
“Sigurado ako. Sure na sure yan.”
The second Philippine athlete that was tested was June Mar Fajardo.
FIBA will continue to pick random athletes for the rest of the tournament in China.
