Two homegrown Bedans have left the ‘Lion’s Den’.
Justine Sanchez and Winston ‘Tony’ Ynot have left San Beda University and are looking to transfer to another NCAA school.
Red Lions team manager Jude Roque confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
The batch of Sanchez and Ynot, alongside Rhayyan Amsali and Yukien Andrada, was seen as the building blocks of the San Beda program.
Now, only Andrada remains in Mendiola.
Sanchez, who stands at 6-foot-5, was the first to leave San Beda early this year. He had been vocal in expressing his dismay at the sacking of Manu Inigo as Red Cubs head coach during the course of NCAA Season 98.
He averaged 5.59 points and 3.41 rebounds last season.
Meanwhile, Roque disclosed that Ynot left the school on Monday morning, saying that he wants to play in MPBL team Iloilo as a special guest player. Iloilo is coached by Manu Inigo.
San Beda though does not allow its student-athletes to join leagues as individuals. Moreover, the second semester is when student-athletes catch up with academics in the school.
This is also the same problem James Kwekuteye has. Unless he is given an exemption, Kwekuteye will be bound to join the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft.
Ynot averaged 9.06 points, 5.44 rebounds, and 2.33 assists last season.
It is still unknown where the two will transfer. They will have to sit out one academic year before being eligible for either UAAP Season 87 or NCAA Season 100.
The Red Lions are coming off a fourth-place finish in Season 98.
