It’s as if Justin Brownlee’s sending a message that he’s going after the 2018 Governors’ Cup Best Import award.
The versatilie forward just dropped 45 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists on Sunday night to help the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel topple the Alaska Aces, 109-101, to collect their second straight win in the season-ending conference.
After Sunday, Brownlee – the reigning Commissioner’s Cup Best Import awardee and now-three-time PBA champion – is now averaging 39.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks.
“Man, if that happens that would be great,” beamed Brownlee about the idea of bagging the conference’s Best Import award, which he has yet to win, as Meralco Bolts’ Allen Durham has edged him out for the honors twice.
However, Brownlee made it known that winning the award is the least of his concerns.
For the cager out of Tifton, Georgia, what’s more important for him is to help Ginebra send a message to everyone in the league that they don’t have a hangover from their 2018 Commissioner’s Cup championship.
“But honestly, as a team, we’re trying to make a statement that we don’t have a championship hangover,” said the 6-foot-4 Brownlee. “We’re still trying to get better and better everyday. We still feel like we havent reached our ceiling.
“We’re just gonna continue to just try to get better, and whatever individual goals come with any player on our team, we’ll take it.”
