With fans allowed back in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, Gerald Anderson made sure to bring his partner as his special guest.
Julia Barretto was part of the crowd that watched GenSan’s pool play game against Imus on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
And the 24-year-old actress is just glad that the 5-foot-10 actor-guard is back to doing what he loves — playing basketball.
“It’s his first love.
“It’s something that he is passionate about and he is committed to it,” said Barretto. “He has invested so much of his time and effort for this team.”
After playing just three minutes against Rizal last Sunday, Anderson started their games against Imus on fire, dropping 12 points in the first half alone.
And it’s because Anderson has been training hard for the past two years, according to Barretto.
“The wonderful about him is when the game is back, he is just always prepared. So when the MPBL had a two-year hiatus, he was just training every day and preparing for when the MPBL is back,” she said.
“Now that it’s back, he is just ready.”
Anderson though was only brought in the last minute and 28 seconds of the final frame afterward. Imus lost the game, 74-66, to fall to 0-2 in Pool D.
The product of Holy Trinity University ended up with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with an assist.
And with their backs against the wall, Anderson is planning to go all out with GenSan as they fight for dear life on Wednesday against Manila.
For her part, Barretto will support her man.
“Very understanding. I support him in everything that he does and I’m just behind him, always cheering him on. “
