It was never about proving something for Jordan Adams following a remarkable showing that marked his return to the San Miguel lineup on Friday.
All that’s important for the well-traveled winger is winning, as seen by the 49-point, 11-rebound effort he submitted to tow the Beermen past Phoenix.
With the victory, the team stretches their winning streak to three in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.
“Gotta keep winning. That’s all that matters,” he said during the postgame press conference of their 139-127 victory at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Adams was relegated to the reserve import list as the team experimented with another ex-NBA pro in Sheldon Mac and went with the latter in their 119-114 victory over NLEX just last Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
It was a move that drew confusion among fans and netizens online since the 30-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia was playing well before that decision.
He even had 41 points, six rebounds, and five assists in their 113-112 victory over Rain or Shine last September 5 before the switch.
Mac, for his part, only finished with 16 points against the Road Warriors. The coaches then decided to reactivate Adams a day after that game.
The former UCLA Bruin then gave the impression that he was out to make a statement when he dropped 49 against the listless Fuel Masters in the triumph that brought them back to second in Group B with a 5-2 record.
But then again, Adams, a man of few words, simply wants to help his team, and part of it is staying ready for whatever may happen.
“I just had to stay ready, you know. They told me to stay ready, you’ll never know what can happen.
“That’s my job as a professional, just stay in the gym and stay ready for my name to be called,” the 10-year pro said.
