San Miguel Alab Pilipinas is set to make its fifth import change in a span of three months.
Alab have tapped former Columbian and Magnolia import John Fields to replace Sam Deguara.
The development was first reported by Randolph Leongson of Spin.ph, then confirmed by multiple sources closely monitoring the situation.
Deguara, a 7-foot-5 big man from Malta, averaged 14.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game in 14 games played for Alab.
However, Deguara was inconsistent during that span, figuring in foul trouble for the majority of the games he played for the Philippine-based club team.
Fields, on the other hand, is no stranger to the regional league.
The 6-foot-9 American was the Singapore Slingers’ import last season, averaging 21.6 points, 12.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.2 assists per game. Moreover, he led the Slingers to the Finals.
The 31-year-old Fields also played for Columbian in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, posting norms of 29.12 points, 19.12 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game.
He returned to the big league a year later but only played in one game for Magnolia, as he was still recovering from the wear and tear of the ABL season.
Fields is coming off a stint with Portuguese club team U.D. Oliveirense Cacarola.
Fields will make his Alab debut on Sunday, March 1 in Saigon.
