Jocel Ninobla takes down SMART/MVP SF online poomsae tourney

Coming off a win in a European tournament last month, Jocel Ninobla sustained her momentum by winning gold in the first-ever SMART/MVP Sports Foundation Online National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.

Ninobla had 8.333 points to win the black belt senior female division last weekend. The division drew 33 competitors.

Completing the podium were Aidane Laxa (8.150), who had silver; and Daphne Ching (8.100) and Mikee Regala (8.067) for the bronzes.

The videos of all competitors in the first-ever local event were uploaded on YouTube.

For the men’s side, Patrick Perez struck gold with a score of 7.967.

The SEA Games silver medalist eked out the victory over Raphael Mella, who had 7.933 points. Bronze medal winners were Joshua Cachero (7.750) and Dominic Navarro (7.733).

World Taekwondo has been finding ways of continuing its form events through digital means.

As of June 1, contact sports are still prohibited from happening.
