Rodolfo Reyes Jr. and Darius Venerable paced the charge for the Philippine national team as they bagged the Male Most Valuable Player awards for the recognized and freestyle categories, respectively, at the end of the 7th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Chuncheon, South Korea.
Team Pilipinas garnered five silver and three bronze medals in the tournament.
Reyes Jr. captured two medals after taking the silver in the recognized poomsae individual male under-30 category and the bronze in the pair under-30 event with reigning two-time Southeast Asian Games champion Jocel Ninobla.
Venerable, on the other hand, pocketed two silver medals in the championships to capture his second straight MVP award. The University of Santo Tomas student-athlete earned a runner-up finish in the freestyle individual male over-17 and helped the mixed team over-17 finish in second as well.
Janna Dominique Oliva also took home two silver medals as she ended in second in the freestyle individual female over-17 and as she is likewise a part of the mixed team over-17.
Joining Venerable and Oliva in the mixed team over-17 silver medalists are 30th SEA Games champion Jeordan Dominguez, Kobe Macario, and Juvenile Crisostomo.
The other silver medal came from the recognized team male under-30 with Joaquin Tuzon, Enrico Mella, and Patrick King Perez.
Macario and Crisostomo took bronze after fourth in the freestyle poomsae pair over-17 final. Angelica Gaw, Aidaine Laxa, and Laeia Soria copped the other bronze in the recognized team female under-30.
