Jia on being announced as De Guzman for the first time: ‘Nakakakilig’

Nakakakilig.

That’s how Jia De Guzman felt after hearing the Premiere Volleyball League announcer call her name for the first time during Creamline’s bout against PLDT on Thursday night.

“Siyempre nakakakilig,” Jia told reporters after the Cool Smashers’ 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 debut win over the High Speed Hitters.

After more than a year of engagement, the Creamline star setter married her long-time boyfriend Miguel De Guzman last November 11. And today marked the first time that Jia carried her other half’s last name in a game.

Jia, though, bared that it may take her a couple more games to get used to it. Nevertheless, she’s just happy to finally carry her beau’s name all while playing the game that she loves the most.

“Nakakapanibago pa rin na yun yung tinatawag na pangalan pero happy rin,” shared Jia.

Turning serious, Jia shared that the Cool Smashers played great in its debut match against the High Speed Hitters. Still, the former Ateneo star believed that the team still has a lot of room for improvements moving forward.

She tossed a game-high 22 excellent sets along with three points in the three-set win at the Paco Arena.

“We’re happy naman with how we played. I think we just have to… Happy naman kami sa outputs namin and siyempre we have to improve more on yung communication namin and yung mga small errors namin na puwere naming tanggalin.”
