James Spencer is continuing in honing his craft in Australia.
With the UAAP season cancelled, the third-year student-athlete from University of the Philippines has decided to suit up for the Dandenong Rangers in Australia’s National Basketball League1-South.
NBL1 is a semi-professional league making the Fil-Aussie still eligible for the UAAP.
Spencer, 21, had already played in two games for the Rangers.
The 6-foot-4 swingman had three points, two steals, and an assist in Dangdenong’s 90-67 loss to the Diamond Valley Eagles last April 17.
Diamond Valley had five players in double-figures during the game.
Ngor Manyang led the way with 22 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a steal while Ben Allen added 13 points and nine boards.
Sean Macdonald led the way for the Rangers with 19 markers but went just 5-of-16 from the field. Oliver Hayes-Brown added 18 points and 12 boards.
Dandenong could not bounce back on April 24 as it bowed to Frankston Blues, 76-110.
Spencer had five points, two rebounds, and two assists in 13 minutes of game time.
Frankston had three players breach 20 points with David Andersen leading the way with 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting.
Lachlan Barker added 23 points built on five triples while Dillon Stith posted 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Declan Soukup tried his best to get the Rangers back into the game, sinking five of his six three-point attempts on his way to 17 points.
Hayes-Brown was limited to just 12 points but still grabbed 13 rebounds.
Up next for Spencer and the Rangers are the Bendigo Braves on May 2.
The league has 18 teams.
