James Spencer joins B3 team Tokyo Z

James Spencer is returning to Asia, but not through the PBA Draft.

The 6-foot-4 Filipino-Aussie has signed with B.League Division 3 team Tokyo Z.

Earthfriends was the same team that signed Juan Gomez de Liaño during the 2021-22 season, and the 24-year-old winger can’t wait to showcase his skills again.

“I’m looking forward to meeting everyone—management, coaches, teammates, and everyone involved in the organization, especially the fans! I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent my country and my family, and to play for the Earthfriends,” his statement read.

“I promise to give my all in every game, and I am eager to learn more about Japan and its culture.”

Spencer spent three seasons at the University of the Philippines.

In his final UAAP game during Season 85, he scored 14 points on four three-pointers in Game 3 of the Men’s Basketball Finals. He also played for NBL1 teams Keilor and Dandenong.

Spencer aims to elevate Tokyo Z back to B2.

Earthfriends was relegated to B3 after the 2022-23 season, finishing with a 14-46 record.

Last season, Tokyo Z finished in 10th place with a 25-27 record.

Spencer is represented by Nadine Jamal and Phenom Championship Clinic.
