The PBA Commissioner’s Office has slapped hefty fines on 10 players for their participation in ‘ligang labas’ gigs without permission from their mother teams.
In a report by the league’s official website Wednesday, the PBA handed out a total of P590,000 in monetary sanctions, with Jio Jalalon drawing the stiffest penalty of P100,000. The 30-year-old guard has already been suspended and fined by Magnolia.
Beau Belga and former teammate JR Quinahan – who were both with Jalalon in the fight-marred game in Cebu – were fined Php 50,000 each, plus an additional P20,000 each for their involvement in the melee.
The 36-year-old Belga and teammate Rey Nambatac have already been sanctioned by the Rain or Shine management.
A P50,000 tab was billed on Nambatac and others, namely another Elasto Painter in Jhonard Clarito, San Miguel’s Vic Manuel and Allyn Bulanadi, Alec Stockton and Barkley Ebona of Converge, and NorthPort’s Arwind Santos.
Commissioner Willie Marcial issued the fines after meeting the players. Only Nambatac and Santos weren’t able to show up in the PBA Office in Libis due to family obligations but were talked to over the phone by the league chieftain.
The players were warned of stiffer penalties for repeat offenders as Marcial reminded the pros of their responsibilities with their mother teams.
Robert Bolick, who was with Quinahan, Belga, and Jalalon in the exhibition game in Cebu, was not fined.
His contract with Northport expired after the Governors’ Cup.
