2020 Tokyo Olympics

Hidilyn Diaz’s tough journey to Tokyo to be shown in online series

With just a full month before Hidilyn Diaz takes to the podium of the 2020 Tokyo Games, she will share the hardships she faced over the past year as she enters her fourth Olympiad.

Through one of her backers Kick-Start Coffee, the 30-year-old — who is gunning to break the country’s gold-medal dry spell in the Games — will give an exclusive look on how she was able to cope with not just the pandemic, but also the pressure of carrying the country on her shoulders.

The four-part series titled “Let’s Go HD!” will air for four Thursdays starting on July 1 at Kick-Start Brewed Awakening’s Facebook page.

“Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa Kick-Start Coffee sa pag-partner sa akin, sa journey ko towards Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said the silver-medalist in the 2016 Rio Games.

“It’s my way also to connect to the fans so thank you so much then gusto ko lang sabihin sa lahat na please continue to support the Filipino athlete na maglalaban sa Olympics.”

For the past year, Diaz, a native of Zamboanga City, has been away from home as she got stuck in Malaysia due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Kick-Start Coffee is thrilled to support Hidilyn Diaz on her journey to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Through our documentary series, we want the world to see her talent, hard work and motivations that will fuel her to victory,” said Mike Asuncion, founder of Kick-Start Coffee. “Her story is an inspiration for all Filipinos working hard to achieve their hopes and dreams, and we are proud to be the coffee fuel to tell her story to everyone. At the core of the Kick-Start Coffee brand is starting something new over all-natural, freshly roasted coffee.

“We are collaborating for something new in this series as the first of its kind as we rise up to the challenges of creating everything remotely online.”

Both Diaz and Kick-Start Coffee hope that this series not only lets the fans get to know the Olympian more but also be motivated to rise over adversities.
