Don’t call it a comeback–yet.
Greg Slaughter clarified as much following his surprise appearance during the PBA Season 49 Leo Awards on Sunday at the Novotel Manila Araneta City.
“I wouldn’t say I’m officially back yet,” he said in a quick interview with reporters. “I was invited to the event by the commissioner. It’s a very big event.
“The PBA has always been something very big for me, my family, and my wife. Really happy to be here on such an important event,” he added.
Slaughter’s attendance inevitably sparked speculations on his return after exiting the league in 2022 following a rough situation with NorthPort.
He has since taken his act to the B.League for Fukuoka and later, for Manila in the MPBL, but his rights remain with the franchise that has recently been purchased by Pureblends.
So if ever he does come back, the former BPC will suit up for Titan Ultra, which is all set for its maiden PBA voyage beginning in the Philippine Cup.
Coincidentally, members of the Giant Risers, such as team manager Adriene Anglim–someone whom Slaughter’s familiar with–were in the Leos as well.
“I’ve known him for a long time now–he used to come by our Ginebra practices when he was just a teenager,” said the four-time league champion.
“So, I was pretty surprised when I saw he’s the team manager of the team that has my rights now,” he added as Anglim was once a part of DLSU’s Team B.
Perhaps, it may just be a matter of time before ‘Gregzilla’ comes back.
“I reached out to him, we just had a little conversation about me possibly coming back,” said the 37-year-old Cebuano.
“We’ll see what we can do from here.”
